According to Hindu tradition, Lord Vishnu was born as the ideal king, Rama. The stories in this Amar Chitra Katha collection are centred around him. The first one chronicles the lives of the Ikshvaku kings who were the ancestors of Rama. The second one is about Rama's father, Prince Dasharatha, who mistakenly shoots a young boy while out hunting. He is cursed by the boy's bereaved parents. The
story of Rama deals with his life and days of exile in the forest. Hanuman, the powerful son of Vayu the Wind God, is famous as Rama's devoted companion. The story of Luv and Kush, the estranged sons of Rama, is taken from Bhavabhuti's Uttara Ramacharitam.
